Event Highlights
Date: Sunday, December 15, 2024
Location: Metro Judo Club, Greenwich
Special Guest: Mayor Councillor Jit Ranabhat
Purpose: Presentation of 4th Mon (Yellow belts) and Jack Petchey Awards to autistic judo students
Metro Judo Club has been dedicated to making judo accessible for young people with special needs and disabilities since its inception in 1977. The club offers tailored sessions specifically designed for autistic children, providing them with a safe and supportive environment to learn judo. These sessions not only promote physical fitness but also help in developing social skills, confidence, and emotional well-being among participants.
Importance of the Program
Judo is recognised for its benefits in enhancing coordination, focus, and discipline. For autistic individuals, participating in such structured activities significantly reduce anxiety and improve social interactions. The club’s initiative to hold specialised sessions on weekends allows for greater accommodation of these young athletes, ensuring they receive the attention and support they need.
Community Engagement
The involvement of local leaders like Councillor Jit Ranabhat underscores the community's support for initiatives that foster inclusivity. His presence at the belt presentation ceremony not only honoured the students' hard work but also highlighted the importance of community engagement in promoting sports for all abilities. As we reflect on this exciting event, we invite all members of the community to join us in celebrating our students' achievements.
